Plus Sized Brides
What about if I am a plus size bride?



There are thousands of plus-size brides out there that share your same concerns and feel challenged when trying to select a wedding gown. I'm sure that one of the most frustrating obstacles you are facing is the fact that most gowns carried in a bridal salon are sampled in a size 10.The first piece of advice I have to give you is to be careful of taking too much advice. Remember that most advice you will get are simply "guidelines" to use when searching for a dress, but you will never be 100% sure of how a gown looks on you until you try it on your body! Which is easier said than done considering you have to purchase a gown that is shown in the wrong size. Being plus-size shouldn't be the only factor you consider when choosing a gown.I think that the silhouette is more important than size! Are you tall or petite?Are you busty? Do you have large hips? Do you have a thick mid-section?You also need to consider the type of wedding you are having. Is it formal or informal? Is your ceremony or reception indoor or outdoor?Here are a few of my guidelines, suggestions, and some of my favorite gowns for fuller figures:
I feel that heavy fabrics can sometimes make the person look even heavier, so I generally prefer to choose gowns that are made of lighter fabrics.Here is a Watters gown in a silk satin with beautiful lace overlay: It has a soft sweetheart neckline and a pretty A-line silhouette, which is flattering to most body types. Because it's light and has lace, I think it would look perfect in a garden setting.
These 2 gowns by Watters Bridal have rouching which can be very forgiving when trying to conceal a thick waistline, and an A-line silhouette which is good for accommodating fuller hips. Both are made of silk shantung, which is a very lightweight fabric.


This next dress by Watters Bridal, also a rouched silk shantung, rests at the tip of the shoulder, which can give the appearance of broader shoulders and in turn can balance out fuller hips.
Jim Hjelm even offers bridal gowns up to size 28 (as do most designers) and can even custom size the gown for women. This is a strapless silk satin gown with a sweetheart neckline. It will give you that "Jessica Rabbit" look every woman wants.

We feel at the Blushing Bride that no matter how different your body type is, we can have the right dress for you if you let us work with you. However, we may not have a plus-size sample of every gown I've featured here or even a lot of plus sizes in our salon. But don't be overwhelmed by your size; Remember, every bride has the same challenge of finding the perfect dress, and if you ever wish to come into Blushing Bride, I would be more than happy to help you choose a gown that you will LOVE, and that will look GORGEOUS on you!

Bridal Gowns
Recently it has come to our attention that we are loosing brides to other stores in the area.
Perplexed to why this is happening, we asked ourselves why, we couldn't figure it out, we moved into a brand new location that is beautiful, we have over 300 bridal gowns to choose from and we list our gowns at the lowest price we are able to do so by each of the designers.
We can't figure it out, so we asked a few of you and here is what we found out...
Some of you have found a completly different dress that we either don't have in our store, but are able to order for you or we don't have that designer in our store.
Our solution, we are working on adding more of what you are looking for in our store, please always let us know if there is something that you would like to see from us, we are always willing to hear suggestions.
The other reason, and this bothers us. We have found the right dress for you and you still continue to look but bought the same gown we spent 2 hours + finding and working with you but you bought it from another store.
So, we have asked and found that some stores in our area are undercutting us.
We know they are doing this because, we price our gowns at MSRP directly from the maufacturer, per our contract agreement with them. But some of the other stores in the area (i.e. Clarice's Bridal, among others) are selling dresses below MSRP. So our solution to this is turning them in for not following the rules set forth by the manufacturer. Well guess what, they still continue to do this and here is what we are doing in retaliation, we are beating their price by 5%. So, if you get a price from any St. Louis Metro Area bridal salon that is lower than ours, please bring it in and we will continue to turn in these bridal salons that continue to not follow the rules and bring them to justice, but give you the discount as well for continuing to support our business!
We all know that we are in the midst of an economic crisis, but if you find your gown at our store, please let us know that you got a quote from someone else that was lower, we do not want to loose your busisness.

Appointments
I can't stress how important appointments are in the wedding industry, especially in bridal. Please call ahead and book your appointment. If we do not know you are coming, we have other brides we are working with and other things to do in our store. We are always doing something, we rarely take a break, let alone eat a lunch.
Appoinments for Bridal Salons are important for these reasons.
1. To make sure a consultant is available to work with you. Our salon always has a consultant working with our brides, bridesmaids, mothers, grooms (for their tuxedoes), flower girls, etc. This is due to placing you in the appropriate styles, checking on colors available for the gowns, measuring and ordering.
2. To make sure there is a dressing room available for you. If we have all of our dressing rooms booked and all of our consultants are booked you will not be allowed access to our bridal salon.
3. There is no such thing as looking when it comes to bridal, bridesmaids, etc....You always need to try a dress on.
These are just some of the very important reasons to make sure the bridal salon knows you are coming.
Also, please make sure you are on time for your appointment, if you are not, it will cause a huge back-up for our customers and it makes it a very uncomfortable experience when we have to cut your appointment short because you were late.
